Camping

Since we aren't taking the kids anywhere big this summer, we are trying to do little vacations throughout the summer to try and spice things up. This weekend we took the kids camping to Pocahontas Park. We made a fire and made hot dogs and s'mores. Michael had a blast with the fire, but wouldn't leave his food in the fire long enough to cook, and Alex didn't like getting hot by the fire. Jordan just threw rocks. After dinner we sang songs by the fire and then all the girls went home to sleep in comfy beds. Michael and Daddy stayed to sleep in the tent. We couldn't get the big logs to catch and stay on fire, so about five minutes after we left the fire went out, and I had the only lighter, since I was the fire master. The next morning I still had the lighter, so Chris had to borrow one from a nearby camper and they cooked their oatmeal by candlelight. Good thing we weren't pioneers! The next morning we got to go swimming at the park and the kids had a great time. Over all we learned that it was really fun to take the kids, but we are really inept campers and probably won't do that more than once a year. Still the kids had a great time and I guess that is what counts!
